Arriving
The day starts at the porch door
A teacher meets every child by name and says hello to the grown-up too. Coats go on low hooks, and a first game is waiting: blocks on the rug, paint at the table, a book in the nook.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for families who need an early start. The morning programs run 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The morning
What fills the morning
Free play
Most of the morning is free play. Children choose between the block rug, the dress-up corner, the art table and the water table, and teachers move between them.
Snack
Snack is set at low tables, and children take turns sitting down. They pour their own water and wipe their own place.
The yard
The yard has a sand pit, a mud kitchen and a garden bed. Children go out in boots, mittens or sun hats, depending on the day.
Story and song
Before pickup the room gathers on the rug for a book, a song and a game.
The school day
After the morning
Children on the school-day schedule stay until 3:00 p.m.
- 12:00 p.m.

Twos nap on cots. Threes and fours rest, then settle into puzzles, books and drawing.
- Afternoon
Step 3: The yard again
A second turn outside, with a bucket of chalk, the sand pit and the garden bed.
- 3:00 p.m.
Step 4: Pickup
A teacher walks each child to the porch door and hands them over to the grown-up on the pickup list.
