Family policies
What families ask us before a child starts.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to keep your child home
A child with a fever, vomiting or a contagious illness stays home until they are well again, and we ask you to tell us what it was. If a child gets sick at school, we call you right away and a teacher stays with them until you arrive.
Drop-off and pickup
We release a child only to the adults on the pickup list you give us. Someone new needs a note from you, and we ask to see their ID at the porch door.
Late pickup
Morning pickup is at 12:00 p.m. and school-day pickup is at 3:00 p.m. Extended care runs until 5:30 p.m. If you are running late, call the school so a teacher can tell your child you are on the way.
Meals, snacks and allergies
We provide a morning snack and water. Families send lunch for school days. We ask you not to send nuts, and we plan snack around the allergies families tell us about.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close for winter break, one week in spring and the usual holidays. When snow or ice makes the roads unsafe, we decide by 6:30 a.m. and text every family.
Screens and phones
Children do not use screens at Buckeye Porch. Teachers keep their phones put away while children are in the room, and the school phone stays at the front desk.
What to wear and bring
Send clothes your child can move in and that can get messy, plus a full change of clothes in a bag. We go outside every day, so boots, a hat and mittens matter in the cold months.
